Dear All,

Please could anyone tell me if the TC14E will give full AF when used with the Tamron 200-500 zoom? (camera bodies D70s and D300)

many thanks
Kevin

Kevin:

I have not tried the TC14E on the tammy but ocassionally use a Tamron 1.4 on the D 80 and D 50. It seems to work best on the D 80 and will autofocus just not correctly. When I use the TC I use manual focus and tripod. It does tend to degrade the IQ some. Here is a link to a shot I posted yesterday with the D 80, Tammy 200-500 and 1.4 TC.

Hope this helps.

I'm afraid you're out of luck, the TC14E will not even couple to the Tamron without cutting off one of the lugs on the mount, (there is a fix for this, Google for it). Even if you do this it will not autofocus or meter correctly with non AFS lenses.

If you must have a TC I would go for the Tamron 1.4 or the TelePlus (Kenco) 1.4, they are both very good performers, probably both made by Hoya.

This sounds pretty final! Why is this? The Tamron obviously fits a standard Nikon mount, as do AFS lenses, so what is different about the TC that prevents it connecting to the Tamron?

As Nirofo stated theres a further tab on the TC that prevents it being connected to anything but an AF-S AF-I lens, its easily removed, modded both my 1.4 and 1.7 TC's only took a few minutes with a dremel, my 1.4 works well on my Sigma 500
