Hi - can anyone advise, please?
I just picked up my ordered MF055Nat+128Nat to find that the shop had ordered the 190Nat in error. I can change it but wondered if the extra weight was worthwhile? At 6'4" tall, having got it home, I find I do have to have the centre column pretty much 3/4+ extended to be comfortable.

Steve,
I'm 6'4"...and own a 055Nat and I only extend the centre column a wee bit...so it is probably taller than the 190....I use an angled scope and I'm more than happy with the combination.
Dave.

Thanks, dave - the 190 is about 10" shorter, so far as I can tell. It seems fine but the scope looks as if it's teetering on the top of a long pole!

Steve, I own both the 055 and a longer version of the 190 called 290. The 055 is definitely more rigid, but it is also a lot heavier. I put some padding on two of its legs to offset the pressure on my shoulder. Did'nt feel like needing it on the 290.
Meanwhile, however, I treated myself to a lighter carbon tripod (SherpaPro). This is also extremely sturdy. However, those locking devices are a real hassle compared with the Manfrotto's clamps.

Steve. i have both and am not as tall.used to use the 190 but now use the 055 all the time especially when digiscoping as it much more study and a better tripod but is heavier .Did they charge you the same price as the 055 as this is the more expensive tripod.I see you've changed your thumbnail,is this you singing the praises of Nikon scopes.

I think I'll follow your advice, Graham and change it for the 055 as I originally ordered.

I was answering another thread and it seemed appropriate; I think I'll change back the the Strawbs again, though!

The way some people tell it, extending the center column of a tripod is just shy of pure evil. I do this all the time, but usually only 6-8 inches and I don't ever do it with the tripod legs even close to fully extended (I use the 055/CL). Extending both the tripod and center column will almost surely make for a relatively unstable platform for digiscoping.
If you know that you will frequently use the tripod with fully extended legs, I think you should opt for the added stability and get the tripod you initially ordered.

I'm waiting for delivery of the 055 + 700RC2 head as these seem to be a good combination that has many people recommending it. The 128RC head seemed quite heavy, at around 1kg., for the use to which it will be put - twice the weight of the new 700 head.
