If anyone is thinking about getting one, do it now.

Amateurphotographer reports another 10% price increase of the Nikon D90 in the UK starting next month (May, 2009). The reason - exchange rate fluctuations. Expect this price increase to trickle-down to other countries as well. Now, the D5000 pricing will not be so close to the D90 price.

According to this post in dpreview, Nikon support confirmed the D90 LV bug “in LV mode the shutterspeed is frozen at the value taken at the moment of activation” and a patch is expected soon.

If you go by market price, a 10% increase in the D90 price puts it even closer to the SRP of the D5000...??

Currently D90 £619.00 body only on WHE vs £719 for the not yet released D5000.

I keep forgetting that the prices in the UK for these two cameras is opposite that in the US. Body only for the D5000 is still about $200 cheaper than the D90 body over here.

hmm wonder if thats Nikons view of the market the D5000 is aimed at i.e. North America?
As for the moving view screen, its gotta be a weak link

My guess is that the current price for the "older" D90 doesn't reflect the crash of the pound, i.e. was set as the pound was still strong compared to other key currencies.
The price for the "newer" D5000 is likely reflecting the current value of the pound on the world market, thus it is more expensive than the D90.
Question is if and when Nikon is going to adjust prices of the D90 or D5000 in GB to reestablish the product/price hierarchy found in other markets.

Does anyone have confirmation on the D90 price increase for the UK? Am planning to buy one in the UK in June, but may have to order it now to save myself 60 quid...

Looking at Ken Rockwell's page on the D5000 it seems that the imaging quality should be of an identical standard in both D90 and D5000, but the D5000 is a bit lighter, with slightly slower fps and no AF motor.

Gentoo,

a quick word of thanks - I ordered a D90 from Warehouse Express soon after your last post (above), and since then the price has gone up by about GBP 60. So you saved me some cash!

Thanks

Dave
