Does anyone know if Nikon plans to upgrade the D700 this year?
I am considering buying one, but would be very miffed if I missed out on a possible upgrade.
Having used the D700 I'm really impressed with the ISO capabilities. No noise at 800 or 1000 ISO. Also the true wide angle capabilities and the excellent screen with easy zoom function.
What I'd really like to see in an upgrade would be an increased megapixel processor. Nikon seems to be a little behind Canon at present.
I'd appreciate any information anyone has found out.

No matter what you buy Richard you'll always be wondering what's coming next and possibly disappointed you didn't wait. However, what you also don't know is how much you will have to pay. Might take a year for the price to settle by which time another model will be iminent !
Must admit I'd like some more pixels on a DX model next !

as you may already know, nikon have announced the d5000, to be honest from what i have read on different websites, we wont be seeing any of the upper end models being released till the last quarter of the year, maybe going into beginning of next. I would imagine there is something in the pipeline.

Thanks for the Nikon Rumors link Gentoo. It's an interesting site.
I might go for it and buy the D700. I had a good trial using my son's one at Easter and yes, there is a marked difference in results over the D200. I think the exposure is much more sophisticated and certianly the ISO is a dream.
The big problem in the UK is the price. since the banking crisis the pound has gone down the toilet resulting in steep price rises from Nikon. The D700 has gone up from £1600 - £1750. I can see no prospect of the currency getting any better in the near future.

With no sign of a replacement model any time soon I decided to go for it. I ordered a D 700 last week. Wish I'd done it at Christmas when the prices were considerably lower.
I'm going to Norfolk later in the month so can't wait to field test the camera on some different birds.

You'll want a bigger telephoto next Richard. :t:

I got my new D700 on Friday. I'm off birding to Norfolk on Thursday so intend to give it a good Christening on the best I can see.
It's great to get the true wide angle capabilities but I expect to have to do a bit of cropping on many of the bird photographs.
I must do a direct comparison with the D200 to see what effect on quality the enlargement actually has.
