After an eternity (seemingly) of having Nyger seed out in the garden, and seeing Goldfinches in the area, two just flew in and had a good snack on the feeder. Hopefully they'll return for some more over the days and weeks. The garden's been quite busy lately, with a Mistle Thrush returning every day for the past week, and plenty of robins, House Sparrows, Blue and Great Tits, Collared Doves, Blackbirds and Wood Pigeons. Get the very occasional Long Tailed Tit, B-Headed and Herring Gulls too.

Grr, just as a type this, a cat came into the garden and made a swipe at a sparrow, causing everything in the garden to fly away. Didn't get it though, and I chased it back to its own garden.

Hope the Goldfinches return to your feeders! I know how you feel as I had a single Goldfinch on my Nyger last week, the first one I have spotted on there! Some nice birds you have visit your garden too.

WE live in cheshire and we have had goldfinches for the first time . We tried nyger seeds in the past and got nowt. However they are feasting on bog standard seed. matter of taste i guess [or just plain hungry]

I got my 1st goldfinch on my feeder about 2 years ago. Now they're regular & have taken over from the sparrows after bringing their young to feed here. Nyger & sunflower hearts did it for me!
Wouldn't be surprised if you had a similar situation.

Thats great Rob! I have just started hanging nyger seed to attract the few I have seen flying around my estate, hopefully they will come. I got my first Greenfinch, that I have seen, other day, I was like a kid!

I've not had goldfinches in the garden at all :C
I have been putting out sunflowers and nyger for a good while now, which thankfully is still bringing in the siskins and greenfinches which appeared 2 or 3 weeks ago, but no goldies.
I have seen them at work, which was the reason I started putting out nyger in the first place, to try and bring them in, but I do work a good 4 miles from home though,......a bit of straw clutching never did anyone any harm.:t:

Cats, hmmmm, my favourite animal.o:D

No return of the Goldfinch so far today, but a Greenfinch (first in the garden in at least a year, that I've seen) kept flying from the tree, onto the seeder without properly landing, and then back into the tree!

They keep returning, which is good news, there's a photo above!

We tried Nyer seeds without any luck, however having put out sunflower hearts White) in the feeders we have had daily visits of goldfinch (about 8 is the maximum fighting for the feeder at one time) for the last 18 months and still wont go for the nyer seeds. But with sunflower seeds (the black ones) we see the bull finches regularly from autumn to spring.
