Hi everyone,
my good pals on BIRDCHAT sent me here for more information.
I am hoping to make a short visit to London in either April or May. It will be my first visit. I am looking for a reasonably priced place to stay (I am on a very limited budget and would like to spend my pennies doing things). I have found a few places to stay that look nice on the web, but I wonder if anyone has any recommendations?
I am also interested for recommendations for a few "birdy" places to visit while I am in London.
regards,
Devorah

I know many folk stay outside in a motel with a fixed price room rate (I'm probably out of date here but it used to be about £50 per night to sleep a small family) and take the train in.

Devorah, on behalf of admin and all the moderators, let me wish you a warm welcome to Bird Forum. I hope you enjoy participating in the discussions and we look forward to hearing all about the birds in your area.
I'm not too sure about accommodation in London - I have found in the past that it can be a little hit and miss. You might be better doing as Steve says and staying just outside in a motel. Getting the Tube into London from the outskirts is fairly straightforward.
As for birding, the only place I know of, and to which I haven't yet been but intend to do so fairly soon, is the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust reserve at Barnes. http://www.wwt.org.uk/visit/wetlandcentre/
I'm sure some of our members who live down that way can tell you of some more sites.

Devorah - how cheap is cheap ?? If you don't mind sharing with others there are quite a number of backpacker hostels in central London (some better than others). You'll pay around £10-£20 a night for a bed in a dorm. The brother of a friend stayed in one in I think Picadilly (pretty much the heart of the city) for a couple of months when he was visiting from New Zealand. He really rated it - it was clean, with good facilities and importantly, good security. If this is the sort of thing you are after I can find out the details for you.
