Hi guys/girls,
Need to pick your brains, i'm doing a cheshire yearlist this year (for my sins) and i'm struggling with a couple of species - Marsh Tit and Corn Bunting. Any sites for either of these species in Cheshire/Wirral please post or PM me.
Thanks

I have seen them in the past as well but they seem to have deserted the area, along with most other birds. Frodsham is a poor shadow of what it was a few years ago. Today i went around No6 tank and the best bird was a Wheatear. Most disappointing!! No birders either to console me!!

Try Holcroft Lane (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&q=Holcroft+Ln,+Culcheth,+Warrington,+Cheshire+WA3, +United+Kingdom&sll=53.800651,-4.064941&sspn=14.275465,39.550781&ie=UTF8&cd=1&geocode=FaCFLwMdpRDa_w&split=0&z=14) near Culcheth, usually four or five singing males along the telephone wires. Still mornings are probably best.

Cheers Saluki. Had three singing males along the lane this afternoon. Then as an added bonus had a "day flying" Barn Owl at Risley Moss. Both were much needed yearticks.

Hi CB,
How's the yearlist coming along?
If you still need Marsh tit try pm-ing Phil Woollen, he usually has them staked out near Chester.

Hi H2,
Added Turtle Dove at Lymm and Wood Sandpiper at Frodsham as the most recent yearticks. Still need Marsh Tit, Spotted Fly, Hobby and Whimbrel amongst others.
I'll PM phil to see if he can give me a good site for Marsh Tit.
Cheers

H2,
I posted it on the main cheshire thread the other day & it got picked up by the pagers!! I would doubt whether i'll find it again because it was flying over. I'm heading that way again this afternoon so i'll have another look.
Only one record for Cheshire & Wirral last year.
I thought you were laid up & going stir crazy. Maybe when your better you can show me.

CB - I assume you got the short staying Ring-necked Duck before it fled back to Staffs? Looking at the photographs I took and comparing with the Westport bird it appears to be the same one. Good find by whoever put the news out and a Cheshire tick for me!

Couldn't get there before dark due to work unfortunately but not needed as a county tick tho. Now on c186 species so my target of 200 is going to be missed.

That's a bit of a p*sser! I don't recall more than 3 in Cheshire & it was a county lifer for me as well. There wa 1 reported at Moore several years ago but some mates who were shown it by someone who'd claimed it reckoned it was a Tuftie!
Slav Grebe(s) still knocking around off Hilbre so may be worth a visit.

I believe so - there has been multiple records for Woolston. The Congleton bird was only the 3rd I can remember though.
