Are there any good places in Cornwall, (Mainly West) to see kingfishers. I dont have a pop-up hide so are there any places that you can view them from the bank. I know they're hard to see but are there any places that I am quite likely to see one, and photograph them with a 400mm lens.

Ryan's Field at Hayle Estuary. there's a Hide under the road bridge - usually to be found in a bush to the right of the hide or sometimes at the weir which passes under Hayle Causeway.

Some likely places (I'd have thought) would be Tehidy woods, Kennal vale & Pendarves woods - not seen any yet.

For a day out - Falmouth - go to the Prince of Wales quay and take a cruise up the Fal to Trellisick.

Or go to Totnes Steamer quay and take a cruise to Dartmouth - see Riverlink (http://www.pdsr.co.uk/page.php?xPage=riverlink.html)

Both are good rivers for Kingfishers.

Try to get up to Wadebridge - the riverbanks from there to Padstow are magnificent birding areas - one of the local experts and also an excellent photographer is Qincol (http://www.birdforum.net/attachment.php? attachmentid=194700&d=1241340718)

Late Autumn and Winter is best for Kingfisher on the Camel Estuary. The best place to see them is the Amble Dam. View from the CBWPS hide at Burniere. Should get some good shots from here.
The Old Hide at Walmsley Sanc. is also a good bet in late Autumn.

I usually see a kingfisher at Porth Reservoir near Newquay - not on the reservoir but the small stream that feeds it.
