Acadia NP

I'm going camping in Acadia NP in Maine for a week and I'll be doing some longish day hikes. I have a 50D with a 70-300 and a small powershot and I'm trying to figure out what I'll want to carry on the day hikes (as opposed to the birding jaunts I'll do) and how to carry it all.

Does anyone lug their DSLR stuff around on day hikes that are upwards of 10 miles of hiking? If so, what bag do you use to carry both camera/accessories and food/water/other hiking necessities?

Matt, on a non-photography sojourn, I take my P&S. If I will be taking the kit, I do it in a Lowepro Mini Trekker AW backpack. If I will using my "big gun", I use Lowepro 600 AW.
