After two years of my Nikon 400mm f2.8 Lens not working properly it was returned to
the above last Thursday morning. On the Monday i received a call from them saying that the
service i had received from them had not been good.
They also said the faults should have been put right on the first visit to Fixation UK who are
their authorised repairers. I was promised a further phone call on the Tuesday, this did not materialise and after various further phone calls and e mails it is now Thursday pm and i am still waiting.
I have also sent a fax concerning my complaint to their M D a Mr. Miwa at Nikon UK. i think the service i have recieived from them has been abysmal
I will of course let you know of any further developments

In the past I've had to wait a lot longer than 2 working days for repairs.
Normally from receipt of the lens or camera it's taken 5 working days before an assessment and estimate has been provided. If as your post suggests they've actually looked at the lens within 2 working days and then admitted the faults should have been put right on the first visit to their authorised repairer I think you're doing quite well. Just a shame about their poor communication.
Hopefully this time they'll finally sort it out.

Nikon pro users can get a good turn around (my mate is one and they do really fast track his stuff) Us mere mortals..... my 300mm was with away for 10days when they changed the AF motor. As for Fixation I had a Sigma lens that they had to send to Sigma because they didn't have the right software to talk to the lens, I guess there not 100% authourised.......

I was told this afternoon that they can find nothing wrong with my lens, but they are going to keep it until they do find the fault and put it right. They are going to loan me a 400mm Lens tomorrow until they sort out the problem with mine.

2 to 5 days turnround time, I dream. I live in Oman and the authorised 'fixer' is Nikon in Japan with a turnround time of 2 1/2 to 3 months. Service was great, my 950 when it was sent back out of guarantee had a new multi selector and other bits changed FOC, my D200 under guaranantee went back with my 80-400VR lens late last year and yes it took 3 months, which was a pain as I had to use my old D100, but the D200 was repaired FOC under guarantee, and the lens had a full strip and clean which cost probably £30. Biggest cost was post, packing and insurance but the whole sum was only about a £100.

Fair comment, we should count ourselves very fortunate, next time you have a problem send it to me, I'll send it to Nikon UK and we'll get it back in less time that a round trip to Japan.......

I took the 400mmf2.8 VR Lens out yesterday it is so much quieter but not keen on the 2x T C as it restricts you to shooting at f5.6 instead of f2.8.
I would not mind one of these lenses perhaps Nikon will swap it for my 400mm Lens if they cannot find the problem.
Cheers

Restrict you to f5.6, Canons 800mm lens is 5.6!! Its just the physics, 1.4 = 1 stop, 1.7 = 1.5 stops and 2 = 2 stops. its the same on all continents....... I would hardly consider 800mm at f5.6 a restriction. Most BF members and myself included would love to have this restriction

Well then just don't use it! Quite a simple solution really. ;)

have you changed bodies recently? a friend of mine had a 300/2.8 and when he moved from a D2X to a D3 the 300 stopped working properly, he sent it back to Nikon and I believe they gave him a silly quote (over £1000) so he bought the 300/2.8vr instead, the 300/3.8 was sold and works fine on the users D300, although he couldn't prove it he felt that there was a backward compatibility issue.

Hi Steve,
This is my second D300 in two months and the 400mm f2.8 Lens did not work on either of them. The D2Xs was not much better on it either.
Cheers
Ian

Neither Nikon or Jacobs Photo and Video sem interested in my complaint, so i have reinstated the County Court Claim against Jacobs and will let the court deal with it.

Ian I'd be more than happy to meet up if you wanted to try a couple more bodies, I could try it on a D300, 200, 90, 40 and a D3
