I can feel visit coming on to Gigrin Farm in Wales for the Red Kites in July, who's been there and what lens did you use. I notice from the website
that they now have Hides which you can pay some extra and can get a bit nearer to the Feeding, anyone used these ? Any comments on your visit

Feeding time is around 3pm so I am thinking I can do a round trip in one day 390 miles. How long does the feeding last and opportunity for taking pictures ?

I visited at the start of june and used my Canon 400/5.6. This was a great lens to use but it did lack the focal length to get the kites and buzzards in the trees and on the posts. If you used your 50D/400 you should be very successful. I was in the basic public hides but I did have a sneaky peak in the tower hide at the end and wished I had booked that one. The actual feeding frenzy lasts about 10-20 mins but the kites are around for about 2-3 hours after, finishing off the leftovers and just gliding around on the thermals.
Hope this helps
