Hi,
I'm going to skomer next week, and only have 1 battery for my 40d. Is this likely to last me for the whole trip on skomer (obviously I can recharge it overnight)? I think the boat leaves @ 10 and returns @ 4.
I would buy some spares from 7dayshop, but they won't get here for monday because of the delivery times. Does anyone know of anywhere else where I can get cheapish reliable spares?
Cheers,
Steve.

Hi Steve
I've just had one delivered which I'll only be keeping as a spare. I could post it to you tomorrow on a loan basis if that will get you out of a hole.

Hi.
I use a 40D and have recently been to the Farne Islands and also bempton Cliffs. On each occasion I have fully charged the battery and filled nearly 3 x 8gig cards and never once had to change the battery, thats around1800 raw files and the battery was still going.
Obviously, all will depend on your battery condition and lens choice. I used the 40D with 400 F5.6 prime for some shots and 70-200mm IS for other shots.
Hope this helps.

One battery *should* be okay but having a spare is always sensible.

I got great backup battery for my 40D for $11.99 from http://sterlingtek.com along with a (a much longer lasting) replacement for my Dell laptop.
They both work as well (or better) than the OEM pieces, at least so far, but I've had them both over a year.
3rd party batteries from reputable dealers are often as good as the originals, but those from non-reputable places may not last more than a few charges. That was the case with one I bought for the Lumix when I was in Vietnam. Guess I should have believed them when they said they had to "open them all first to check if they worked". I held out for a place that sold one in an unopened package -- which looked very much like a real Panasonic package...
