I'm hoping to get to an army surplus store and would welcome some advice as to some general outdoors gear to pickup for wildlife watching.
So far I have the following on my to get list:
2 Groundsheets of a good size = something to lie on and can be made into a makeshift cover as well.
Poncho = quick gear and me raincover
Camo netting = for covering me, hides, wrapping round lenses and so forth
Camo clothes = for hiding me

While out birding in the garden I ensure I have to hand some essentials such as a cool beer, comfy chair and sometimes even risk flipflops, however when out in the wild side I ensure I wear my Salomon walking boots then I just take my chance and enjoy the countryside................ and sometimes the weather too.
Then its dead easy find the birds and hope they stay still long enough for me to sneak up a bit, try a couple of shots.... reveiw shots..... reset.... try again..... blast its gone!!
I am getting good shots of Blackbird and Robin...... these are easier for me even when in flip flop mode.
The camo gear may come after I have mastered the above ... Lol

Just normal dark clothing and sitting still works well. I bought a load of camo netting a while back, just sat in the boot of the car - too much hassle for my general bird photography.

I don't dress up like some people I see in pics, looking like a leafy version of Chewbacca from Star Wars, but I usually wear a camouflage jacket and a green baseball cap. I did buy a small camo scrim net today because my main birding lens is a bright white 400mm job that stands out a mile and I thought that popping a net over it might disguise it a bit (I am not lashing out 55 quid for a neoprene lens cover) - it might also be handy for chucking over my head as well as the lens if I'm sitting in the woods waiting for a Treecreeper.

The best advice I have seen in a long time.
Way too hot hear for cammo jackets and the like. Also don't use ground sheets much as there are way too many leeches. I do have a portable hide and otherwise wear green/khaki shirts and shorts/trousers. And sturdy boots.
