this was photographed yesterday during our regular walks,we thought it is a plain nightjar.
have a look and help

Not sure about the bird (someone else will know though) but I like the name of your birding club!

No, never been to Kenya but hope to visit Africa for the wildlife some day so I might get to Lake Baringo. If the Northern Ireland football team qualifies for the World Cup I'll be in South Africa next summer though!

(P.S. I'm actually called Stephen, James is my middle name. It was a bit of a daft username to choose but wasn't sure what to put down.)

Hope somebody can help with that nightjar, I've no experience at all of the species. It looks like a common to me but I think there's a few that look very similar.

Could this be changed to the Identification Thread? Perhaps unseen by the Africa experts on here.

Freckled nightjar is a possibility, I'm thinking.

the habitat was scrubs and acacias with altitude of 985m absl
