As my Sigma 170-500 is now beyond repair I am considering selling my 40D and lenses and buying a Canon SX1 IS. Has anyone any experience of this camera.

Regards

Peter

Hi Peter,
I have just ordered one today so when it arrives i'll give you my verdict;)
I have heard good stuff about it and decided to go for it after being told today I have Glaucoma in my left eye:-C and thought best buy one while i can still see the bugger!
It really was a toss up between the Sony HX1 and the Canon SX1 and the Canon won due to the remote function and having seen some HD video footage taken with the SX1 no contest!
Cheers

Well the SX1is arrived yesterday and what a cracking camera! very hard to put it down LoL I will try and take some shots + video at various settings to give an idea of what its capable. Lots to read in manual (cd grrrrrrrr). I did a quick try with the zoom and its amazing they have come a long way since my old Fuji S7000 and S9600! obviously its not a dslr but I would imagine its a close as you can get for a bridge camera and anyone who doesn't want a slr+ lenses etc then they should certainly check these out.
Anyway can't stop on here all day I'm off out to play with the new toy!LoL makes a nice change from lugging the slr about.
Cheerio

Ps can anyone recomend fast AA battery charger + Batteries? mine takes 9hrs to charge 4 Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh

Hi Pete,
I strongly suggest you check them out in the shops and see for yourself they do have a real SLR feel to them, for anyone who doesn't want a slr or wants long range + HD Video all in one camera without forking out for big glass then its ideal. I know there will be people who say you cannot beat a SLR but its not about beating them its about a great allrounder and I already own a slr, I do have something to compare it to. Who knows maybe my health will improve and I will be able to get out and about with the Sigmonster again? but if not then at least i can still enjoy getting some decent shots with the SX1;)
Cheers
