Disaster! I have dropped my Canon D30, which has affected it light senor (I think?). Basically, if I set it on <P> mode – it thinks it is really dark and takes 30 second to take a picture, if I set it to <Full Auto> it automatically uses flash and the image is seriously over exposed. However, if I set it on <Tv> I can set the shutter to the speed I think will be right and the image is perfect – BUT the aperture is fixed to 5.6, and flashing?

So, it looks like I need to send it to the menders, I have never done this before, what the best solution – (i) take to a registered dealer? (ii) send direct to Canon??

Any advice or suggestions welcome...

Thanks Andrew

If you have not got specific insurance on the camera, check your household policy.
I dropped my 300d a couple of years back and the insurance company arranged the repairs.

Andrew, Maybe you should just get a quote as it might be beyond economical repair, and a case of good money after bad when it might be better spent getting a newer model (ideally if insured)

My 2 pence worth.

To be honest, I'd have to suggest a repair to a D30 would be uneconomical, especially if it meant spending an excess on an insurance policy.

Given the availability of secondhand 20Ds around the £200 mark, I'd probably be tempted by one of these, a great camera and quite a way in advance of a D30.

D30 are selling on ebay at an average of £140 working, so maybe you could recoup some money on ebay not working you might get £50 towards a new camera
