Just registered so thought I'd say hi to the London forum.

I live in Wandsworth and although not an active birder I do love to watch and admire all the birds I see and know what they are.

There's two Kestrels that land on my balcony quite often. One male and one female...and last week the female couldn't understand why she couldn't fly through the glass. Also have the ring-neck parakeets and a grey heron that lives locally on the river Wandle.

I also live in Wandsworth! Quite surprised to see a male mandarin at 9am this morning on the Wandle by Southside shopping centre. Often see heron and grey wags there but...a mandarin?!!

Yeah many escapees have bred in recent years they seem to pop up around London :-) Virginia Waters tends to host several pairs during the year.

I'm right upon the Wandle (well almost ha) and usually see the Heron that always gets my attention when he comes gliding in. Not seen any Mandarin before though...beautiful.
