Taken from the BBC site.

Sad that the eagle has died but happy that it lived to a good age before dying of natural causes.

This goldie fledged on Mull - the oldest recorded age had been 16 so this was sounds like it has lived a relatively peaceful happy age which is encouraging. As I was opening our viewing hide one morning last week, I happened to look up and saw a juvenile flying along our track in between the hide - I was so close I could see its full crop! The closest view of a goldie in the wild - I felt I could just reach out and touch it - beautiful birds - so majestic and big!!

Oh for one awful moment I thought it was the Lake District eagle that had died!!! :eek!: I'm off to the area next week and we plan to spend a day at Haweswater as even if you don't see the eagle (which we haven't yet!) it's still a stunningly beautiful area :t:

Good to hear of a bird that has lived a long life without any interference from man though :t: I'm sure it's mate will soon find another bird for the coming year :king:
