When out birding don't just look at the birds you can see.
Let me explain. Some birds do not show themselves very well especially when feeding silently. I always check bushes etc when birding & often look up at the sky too. Look at likley looking trees, often you will find a Nuthatch or a treecreeper.
Scan small pools of water. along the fringes you may find waders like Snipe or in Winter Jack Snipe.
