The forecasts are showing a massive high pressure system, building and moving north-east, due to be sat right over us by the weekend.

If it continues to drift east we could be in for a nice easterly airflow, and considering that the weather recently has largely not encouraged eastern arrivals, the flood gates could be well and truely opened.

Even in the predominantly westerly flow recently, a few eastern scarcies/rares have struggled through, so with favourable conditions next week we may be in for something special (but will probably be disappointed!!).

Just wish I lived on the east coast :-C

Well I'm on the east coast for five days from the 21st so I'm hoping it will continue into that week.

Discussed here also.

Perhaps it's not quite what we want. But you have to be in it to win it so I've booked thursday off.

Ah, cheers.

If the big Azores high does continue to drift east into Scandi and merges with the second high...my word, we'll be swamped with Pallids ;)

without some precipitation you're likely to get sweet FA (and I don't mean Ficedula albicollis)

I believe rain is for "standard scarce" (© Punkbirders); more often than not, the big rare comes alone. Or so those rarity finders tell me.

Indeed...plus in the big fall in Lowestoft last year it sure wasnt raining. Ok so the forecast got rather good again when I checked this moring particularly from Tues next week when Copenhagen etc is indeed forecast to bring us ENE winds. Could be some hectic birding over the next week with passerines and seabirds possible. Lets hope the forecast doesnt change yet again however....

I'm that confident that the weekend will be another big let down that I've volunteered to have my sisters kids (The Cramp Twins)!

Yeah, I think this weekend will be a big let down too, but I'm more hopeful of what will happen next week if/when this massive high slips east...if it does so it will surely lead to an easterly airflow, and with or without precipitation that should deliver a few goodies.

Booted Warbler, RB Flys, Ickys plus support along the north Norfolk coast this afternoon. And we've not had a drop of the wet stuff...

The weather charts are seriously hotting up for next week too...

Yeah, if the weather charts remain roughly the same we could be in for some nice birds. ENE winds on Tuesday and Wednesday with a High in Scandanavia to get the birds moving, and some rain over the North Sea to puch them down...
Good luck people!

ah yes, but just think what would happen if it rained (apart from you'd get wet).

Have had a few days in september in Norfolk when the winds looked great but the sun shone and shone and shone, and all you got was some distant VizMig and a lot of disappointment.

Great that stuff is turning up, and the rain forecast for Tues/Wed promises more. Good luck to those who go a-hunting!

Kent looks set for an interesting day tomorrow, strong north easterlies and heavy rain tonight.
