Hi I wonder if you can help me, please. I'm trading in my Slik D3 for a lighter model, to go with a Nikon ED50.
I've been studying reviews etc. and my brain's buzzing.

This is what I need:
Up to 1kg in weight
Preferably 3 leg sections
Pan and tilt head - nothing fancy - but smooth
Doesn't need to be robust or stable in wind
As cheap as possible

I'm 5ft 8in and use an angled scope.

Any suggestions, please?

Benro for best bang. Great quality.
Check *b*y, B&H for vendors

Oh, and get a small ball head :t:

Since you don't want to pay to much, have a look on the Velbon Carbon series CF. I'm happy with my CF640, but your scope is much smaller and you want 3 leg sections. So check the CF530 or even smaller the CF-435, only 1.02kg:

The split center column can make it even lighter, if you don't need it for height. It is better to use a bigger tripod and don't use the center column for stability.
Regarding numbering: first is the size 4 small ... 7 big, second is number of leg segments, last digit: 0 Nut Locking system, 5 Lever Locking system
Additionally you will need a head.

Hi Ivybank, I know it is expensive, and might be considered way overkill, but I have just got the Velbon CF645, and am delighted with it.
I had(still have) the very lightweight Manfrotto with the sqeeze-grip/ball head, which in some respects is great, especially as it is feather light. However, the head grip has lateral movement, which can be a pain for focus, and overall it has too much vibration,
