Howdy!
I gather from the polite message I just received that I've been _lurking_ hereabouts long enough! ;)
I bumped into this website while looking for an informative discussion of optics. Glad I found you!
I live about an hour north of Boston, Mass, USA, not far from Plum Island, where I spend a good bit of time.
I have been birding for a year and a half, since a couple buddies invited me along on a daytrip to the beach. So far, my enthusiasm out distances my knowledge. I have learned a good deal about raptors, waterfowl, waders and larger shorebirds, but I have a long way to go with sparrows and gulls, and on warblers and peeps, I'm clueless!

So I've been snooping around the site, trying to get a feel for the differences between the birding culture in the UK and how it is here. It took me awhile to figure out that "hide etiquette" meant simply how not to be annoying in a birding blind!
So if I ever get to go birding in the British Isles, I'll know how to behave!

Thanks for running a great website!
Rob

LOL Rob, glad you stopped in to say hello. Yes, the jargon from the other side of the pond sometimes throws me but I have quickly learned most of it.

We have a large portion of NA and Canadian members as well, but between you and I, the other side of the pond is far more knowledgeable in a lot of birding matters. Hope you enjoy yourself here.

Hi Rob,

I think most of us "lurk" before jumping in with both feet!

Great area you live in, while on holiday we tour Plum Isl. for a days birding inbetween savoring those "lobstar rolls" and visiting nearby Rockport.
Check out the Gallery for super members pics and tour the Forums.
Glad you found us!
