Does anyone know if there is an adaptor available to enable astronomy eyepieces (1 1/4")to be used on a Nikon scope?

Is the eyepiece opening on Nikon scopes large enough to accomodate a 1 1/4" eyepeice barrel? I seem to recall that it is slightly too small.

Thanks for that Henry, not being very knowledgeable about astronomy, I just wondered whether I could get an adaptor.
