Tuesday, December 31:
A BELTED KINGFISHER was sitting in a Cherry Tree
overlooking the neighbour’s fish pond on Fandell Street in
Nanaimo.
Sunday December 29:
The early results of the Nanaimo Christmas Bird Count are 116
species with highlights including a NORTHERN SAW-WHET
OWL, BARRED OWL, GREAT HORNED OWL, HERMIT
THRUSH, HORNED GREBES, WESTERN
MEADOWLARKS, SORAS, VIRGINIA RAILS and a large
flock of GADWALL.
Saturday December 28:
A PEREGRINE FALCON was seen along the Nanoose
Estuary in Nanoose Bay.
A large flock of RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS was seen
with a flock of EUROPEAN STARLINGS at the Black Bear
Pub side of Brennen Lake
A SORA was seen at Jingle Pot Marsh along Cold Center
Road in Nanaimo.
Friday December 27:
An AMERICAN DIPPER was seen near the north end of the
Westwood Lake stream in Nanaimo.
Thursday December 26:
A RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD and a VESPER SPARROW
was reported in the 1000 block of Morningside Drive near
Neck Point Park in Nanaimo. Confirmation of this sighting is
requested.
Wednesday December 25:
A BLUE JAY was seen coming to feeders on McConvey
Road, on Gabrolia Island.
Tuesday December 24:
A BARRED OWL was sighted at the Nanoose Estuary in
Nanoose Bay.
