I have a couple of finches with five eggs in their 23rd story nest. What is the average number of eggs? How long does it usually take them to hatch, and how long from the hatching until the little ones fly off? Thanks for any info.
Also, just out of curiosity, what will the adults feed them? I have visions of the robins with worms, but in the core of downtown, this hardly seems likely. As I said before, I know zero about birding but have been adopted, so to speak.

Hello Rodney and in case you haven't been give the official welcome yet, here's a warm welcome to you from the entire staff here at Bird Forum ;)
House Finches usually have 3-5 bluish, lightly streaked or spotted eggs, with each pair breeding 2-4 times a summer; tightly woven, compact nest set in a bush, thicket, natural cavity, or on a building.

Thanks for that nesting info. Now, how long until the eggs hatch, and how long until the little ones can fly away? Thanks for any response.

12-14 day incubation period. Fledging occurs 11-19 days after hatching. The nest is a small, woven open cup built in a bush, thicket, natural cavity, or on a building. 2-4 broods are raised in one year.
