I have just watched a blue Tit chick hatch through my web cam.
First a tiny hole appeared where the chick had broken through.
Next the top of the egg split away helped by the female Blue tit.
The chick was then freed from the lower half of the egg by the female carefully pecking away at the shell.
The female then picked up the shell and took it away from the box.
There are around 7 chicks now hatched in the box that leave around 2 remaining.
I managed to video the last few seconds as the female Blue Tit gently remove the lower half of the shell leaving the new tiny born chick wriggling in the nest.
