Definitely worth the wait - and also a good bird for the area I would think.

I heard on the radio to-day that somewhere,Germany I think, due to traffic noise the nightingale has changed to a different tune,it evidently has about 200 variations. It is now a health hazard,as in this area it is reaching 100 decibels to get above traffic noise ! At the week-end the noise level diminishes as the trsaffic is less !
Cracking photo Gromit !

Super photo.
I bet you do these 5/6 hour seawatches I sometimes see on Birdline though.

hi tony
i dont mind waiting for a bird what i know is there, but sitting for hours in the cold and wet looking out to sea for just a chance that something may go past is just not my idea of fun.

ps
just been looking at all my photo's of this bird and it only seems to have one leg
the right one is missing in every pic

I have always tought that the Nightingale was common all over Europe. He is well known all over the wolrd as a great singer.
Also known by the french folk song " A la claire fontaine..."
To hear that melody here a link :

By the way, great pic Dave.

Is it just me, or is that birdie missing a leg? I see a few buds on the twig it's hanging on, but I don't see a 2nd leg....am I blind? heehee

You're not blind, Paisley. This is evidently a one-legged Nightingale. Once you notice the missing right leg, you can see that the weight distribution on the leg that's left (pun intended) seems to be compensating. Wonder what happened...

Hi Luc, Apparantly if you cross the 21 mile wide English Channel then nightingales become easier to see, which suprises me as the French have been known to shoot and eat them.Over here they are more heard than seen
