Elsewhere on the Forums, I have explained what I did for the latter part of yesterday evening… much to the derision of some, it must be said!

However, much less controversial was my walk with partnyorsha around the outback.
It was a bit of a coolish evening, with some cloud, on the back of a similar day. We didn’t even set off until 7:20pm, and so the list we got, which was ultimately fairly lengthy in species terms, was a bit bereft of numbers and was hard work to amass… well as hard as an evening stroll can be.

For once (time of day?) neither Skylark nor Starling were first on the list - although they both made an appearance – as on leaving our house we immediately heard the first of the Yellowhammers. We never actually did see any, and much the same can be said for the vast majority of this time’s ids.

We did get views, although rather fleeting, of a couple of Green Woodpeckers, and clearly the Mallard ducklings are still being educated in the way of the world… well the way of the pond at least!

Missing from the list was another warbler - same as last time I think – definitely either Blackcap or Whitethroat, but never did suss out which.

No owls yet, not at that time it seems, but we were able to add, courtesy of a couple of very distant calls, the outback’s first Cuckoo of the year.

The evenings have been pleasant the last few days if a little on the cool side. Not too many birds about though.

Another good list Dave.

Missed the derisory activities! I shall remain clueless but another nice walk and I am going to try and find my first Cuckoos of the year on Sunday.
