This morning I was rather alarmed to see that two of the chicks were right out of the nest cup, and were cuddled together at the front of the box. We lost 3 chicks from this box last year to a great spotted woodpecker, so we are hoping it is feeding elsewhere this year.
The photo shows the scene when one chick had just spread its immature wings as it was arching its back to present Fluffy with a faecal sack. Here she has collected it, and the chick is recovering from the effort at her feet.
