After a fairly dank and drizzly, occasionally thundery and generally miserable day weatherwise, the late evening improved enough that me and partnyorsha were able to take off for another “owl prowl” around the outback.

Timing was about 15 minutes later than Friday, both setting out and leaving, and we returned with the same number of species, but a slightly different selection.

I’m beginning to improve at distinguishing my partridge calls, BTW!

In owl terms, we saw two “probably Little Owls” and one “probably bigger than a Little Owl” and heard a “maybe a Tawny Owl” before we were finally rewarded by an ever increasingly silhouetted Little Owl on its rounds. Fortunately, it showed itself by sitting on an outlying tree branch long enough for us to have a good look, after having first melted into the tree trunk.

The numbers follow…

Plain text = Outback day tick
Bold text = Outback year tick
(Number in brackets is highest number of individuals identified at one time)

Red-legged Partridge : 1 (1)
Grey Partridge : 1 (1)
Pheasant : 1 (1)
Mallard : 9 (9)
Swift : 1 (1)
Little Owl : 1 (1)
Woodpigeon : 2 (1)
Coot : 1 (1)
Blackbird : 6 (2)
Song Thrush : 1 (1)
Robin : 3 (1)
Swallow : 3 (3)
Red-legged Partridge : 1 (1)
Willow Warbler : 1 (1)

You cover your patch so well it should be easy for you to publish a yearly "My Outback" bird report! :t:

Hoping to do something like...

Set myself a bit of a baseline last year, but not to this detail if you recall.

Looking forward to building up some data over the years - all things being equal!
