Have just checked the Lake District Osprey Project website (http://www.ospreywatch.co.uk/index.htm) which has a webcam of the nest and a daily diary of events.

Here is the good news: on Friday 4th June at 5pm, the project staff got their first glimpse of a chick after being alerted by a change in behaviour by the adult birds.

By Monday 7th June there were still no signs of another chick, but they say that the Friday one has all the bounce of a gourmet tennis ball when it thinks that food is being served! 11 mouthfuls of trout at dawn, 28 mouthfuls of dace at breakfast and 45 mouthfuls of perch at lunch.

Have been checking the Lake District Osprey Project website (http://www.ospreywatch.co.uk/index.htm) from time to time and the chick is now 11 days old and developing well. There has not been a second chick hatch, so let's hope that the parent Ospreys can raise this one successfully.

We've been following the progress too after popping over there for a look last week. The parents were putting on superb aerobatic displays, but the chick was a little too small to see from Dodd Wood - though it probably is big enough now.

Wish I could be there to see them "in person" as it were, but we're not planning to visit our parents in Penrith till later in the year. We visited the viewing site in Dodd Wood when it first opened in 2001, so I can put the Ospreys on my British lifelist!
