Why is it that colors do not seem true when a shot is taken in auto setting as opposed to a shot taken in manual settings? Both shots taken within seconds of each other and on the same subject.

Odd that! But perhaps it's nothing to do with "auto" as such. Check the aperture and shutter speed settings on "auto" then on "manual". You'll find they are probably different. I wonder - is the exposure area that is read by the camera's meter the same for each - or does manual take a 'spot' reading from the centre of the view, while "auto" takes a more general reading?
Although I wouldn't expect it to make much difference, I suppose different settings will create subtly different exposures.

Well, on this particular shot, I had switched to auto to see what settings auto suggested and took the pic there, then I went to manual, adjusted my settings to mimic auto and still the color difference which was evident even on the LCD screen. What I suspect, as you already have is that in manual I did have it on Spot AF, and in auto a more general reading was taken as you suggested. Thanks Steve, you made me think about that a bit.

My guess is that you have auto white balance on. I have seen similar shifting of white balance with my CP995 from shot to shot. I typically use a preset white balance or a standard white balance and seldom if ever use the auto feature.

You might have hit on something there Jay. I'll have to check out the white balance settings on the camera when I get home. Thanks a lot.
