At least that is what I am assuming this tiny bright green spot is on the top of the pic. I know I can clone/crop it out. Just wanted to confirm that it is, in fact, a dead pixel.

It looks like the bird can see it too!.

Is it on other pics?.

Looks like a stuck one to me. Yep! the Shrike has it spotted too ;)

Thus my title "wish upon a dead pixel" ;) Yup! It's on all my pics in the exact same spot.

What's the difference between a stuck pixel and a dead pixel?

Not a lot. Both have the same undesired effect only different colours, so I believe.

As you say simplest thing is to clone them out. On my Olympus C2100uz several appeared so I sent it back under warranty and got them all removed. I think they just map the sensor and those don't get used.

Ah! As it stands now, it is not too much of a concern for me. Particularly where it is located. Thanks for the explanation Ian.

You can, depending on the make and model of you camera, obtain software that can re-map pixels for you. I remember this from when I used to use my CP4500 for astrophotography. The extended periods of use together with the overall dark background showed up a couple of dead pixels I never knew were there.

However, it doesn't come risk free, so I quite quickly gave up on the idea.

Just letting you know that you may be able to re-map it yourself - if you're brave enough!

Rich.

Hi Richard!

I had found an article awhile back on remapping but, as you imply, it is not without risks and I think I can live with that speck for now. ;)

Does look like the shrike has seen it!

Here it is edited out (BTW, it was white, not green, when magnified)

Hmmm, I never tried enlarging it to see color difference Michael. Yeah, I thought the shrike was wishing upon it too ;)

Here it is much magnified - it seems to have affected the surrounding area a bit - note the sort of ring of reddish colour, and the pixelly stuff immediately above right

You can find more information at http://www.nikon.com.sg/TechSupp/KB/TOPFAQ/DeadHotRandom.htm. There is also a piece of software you can download to test for this - http://www.starzen.com/imaging/deadpixeltest.htm (I haven't used this so don't know how well it works).
Thanks very much Brian. I have just bookmarked the site and will read it more thoroughly tonight.
