i LAST WEEK BOUGHT AND RETURNED THE NEXT DAY A BINO/DIGITAL COMBINATION. IT WAS PURE BIRD POOP! I TOOK IT WITH ME ONE MORNING TO A LOCAL SALT MARSH NATURE CENTER NEAR MY HOUSE ("A TREE GROWS IN BROOKLY", AND IT HAS MANY BIRDS IN IT TOO!). IN A PERIOD OF LESS THAN 15 MINUTES I SAW 3 CORMARANTS BASKING ON SOME PILINGS, 2 GREEN HERONS, 1 NIGHT HERON AND A GOLD FINCH PICKING AT SEEDS FROM A THISTLE! NOT ONE SAVAGABLE SHOT IN THE LOT!!!!!
I HAVE A 8X40 BINOC AND A OLYMPUS 2100UZ DIGITAL CAMERA BUT I HATE TO CARRY THEM BOTH. I DECIDED I DESEREVE A TREAT (ONCE A YEAR I BUY ONE THING ON A WHIM AS A TREAT). I DECIDED TO BUY A CANON MINI DIGITAL VIDEO CAMERA. IT IS 1.2 LBS. HAS 20X OPTICAL ZOOM AND A STABALIZER TOO. IN THE PHOTOGRAPHY/CANON FORUM THERE IS NO MENTION OF VIDEO BIRDING. ARE THERE ANY VIDEO BIRDERS OUT THERE?
cLAP YOUR  2X FOR YES 1X FOR NO.

Sorry to see your keyboard caps lock is stuck ;)
We do have a forum devoted to videoscoping, this is a siimilar method to digiscoping in which you put your videocam up to the eyepiece of the scope to gain high quality footage at great distances. As you can imagine, the magnification can be awesome and negates the use of the dreaded 'digital zoom' on videocams.

LOL.

I've videoscoped before. It can be great for your own records and you can take some great stills from it as well. These days I prefer either digiscoping with a camera or just DSLR. I tend to take too much stuff out with me as it is - the camcorder tends to spend more and more time at home.

Still, it's a great thing to do and captures stuff that a 'stills' camera can't - or at least can't do well. It would be cool to be able to download peoples video footage - bandwidth would certainly be an issue though.

Enjoy the camcorder and the videoscoping forum!

Rich.
