Can anybody help with info. Has anybody had experience with the Nikon 2X or 2.5x converters lens that fit the 990. Do they make a difference and are they any good. :h?:
Thanks

The TC-3ED is excellent, and it's a 3x teleconverter. I used it quite a lot. A tripod is recommended.

Agreed. I also have the TC-E3ED and use it with a CP995 and a CP5000. It does not introduced any image degradation that I have been able to notice. In fact, I've done resolution tests with it and the CP995 and found that it is sharper at 6x (2x Camera + 3x TC-E3ED) than the CP995 alone is at 4x.
I have also heard that the 2X is similarly sharp (and smaller and less expensive).
But be aware that you must use the LCD as a viewfinder an that the camera with lens is an oddly shaped assemblage. With the CP990 I think you will have reach out to about 345mm. This is barely getting started with birding. So you may be disappointed with the utility of it if that is your intention.
I am not aware of any 2.5x extender from Nikon. I would expect 3rd party optics to be inferior. I haven't tested any, but some are notoriously mediocre.
