Hi,
I've been reading up on this 'multi tripod' and it seems pretty good. I know that a couple of you guys have it: Is it a good alternative to a hide clamp?
i.e: will it support a large Kowa or 500mm zoom using it as a table top tripod.

The fact that it seems to make an excellent car window mount gives it the versatility that a straightforward hide clamp hasn't.

In anticipation,

Chris.

Hi Chris,

I use the Ergorest combined with a Manfrotto ball & socket head when operating from the car and it works extremely well in conjunction with my ES80 scope and with my EOS 300d + 170-500 zoom - no problems with supporting the weight, but I haven't used it as a replacement hide clamp - I don't know whether it would be tall enough to see over the ledges in the hides I visit so have to rely on a hide clamp in those situations. Can't fault it for car use though!

Thanks for your reply, I reckon I might give it a try - using a Manfrotto 200 head should jack it up a bit and perhaps if necessary, I could use the front foot perched on the cill of the hide window......

By the way - I'm using exactly the same Camera/lens set up as you - or will be again when it comes back from it's re-chip.

I am interested in an alternative to a standard tripod for use in hides. What is the lowest height of the Ergorest without a head attached ? I have a Manfrotto 128 head, which I guess could be used with th Ergorest- once I know the height of the rest I can work out what the hight of the 'scope would be. A lot of the so-called mini-tripods are too tall for use in a hide. Hide clamps are not the perfect alternative, as they are too fixed.

When the Ergorest is used as a mini-tripod it is approximately 8" tall without a tripod head attached (with Manfrotto 486 head add another 4") and the leg spread is around 8" so it will fit on most hide sills.
