Wow! New use for any sturdy tripod, might even be a way to convince the wife if anyone needs a new one.

Quick release would not be better for THIS type of use, but it might help for birding. Main problem with those screw-type locks is that they sometimes seem to be tight when they are not fully done yet. Other than that, I still think its a great tripod.

Chris. Twist-lock legs tend to jam.
