I first heard of these heads here on BF. I'm looking to upgrade to one of these from my 3130. Was wondering if anyone has had a chance to gain some additional experience with either of them.

In the US, the 700 is going for about $72, the 701 for $90. Would love to get the cheaper and lighter 700, but not if it underperforms the 701.

I have a Swaro ATS 80 scope, I assume the foot will fit directly onto the 701, like it does with the 3130.

The 700 looks like it uses a different plate, therefore would have to use it on the foot.

I don't plan to do much digiscoping, so 99% of its use would be for birding only.

I guess the 701 is too new for any feedback on it. I'm interested on some information as well. Any other good heads out there that people reccomend?

There is a review on Andy Brights Digi site www.digiscoping.com I've had mine for a couple of weeks and agree with his review it seems a good solid head with no droop and the sliding mechanism helps with balancing out with the digi gear on even though it's only 20mm slide

You'll find it works very well indeed - but only with scopes up to, I would suggest, about 1800g. You cannot really vary the tension of its pan and tilt friction, but such a mechanism would surely add to its size and weight?

I haven't seen the 701RC2, yet - but it sounds like a very good head indeed. Is it heavier than the 700RC2?

I believe the 700 is 1.1lbs and the 701 - 1.8lbs.

Well - half a pound here and half a pound there add up on a trek. I would still give it a close look over as it does seem to have advantages over the 700RC2.

The 701rc2 is 0.8kg with a max support of 4 kg slightly heaver than the 700 but you have the advantage of the sliding balance mechanism

It sounds a good scope support to me. Thanks for all the info.
