This Mockingbird is being a real pest around my feeders. He sits in a nearby tree and stands guard, whenever another bird comes to eat he attacks it! I've tried making it more difficult for him, I put suet out in many places now, hopefully he'll get tired and decide to "play nice" again8-P
Anyway, I got him just as he was coming in for a snack.
I hope this works!

I can see why you won the competition. You have a real knack of capturing birds in flight. That is a superb shot. Well done. Shame this good looking bird is such a pest. Lets hope you find a way of dissuading him from attacking the other birds.
Perhaps other forum members could come up with some suggestions.

Stunning shot Donna! At last I know what a mockingbird looks like - thanks for sharing it with us. Could you post one perching so that I can further investigate? Roughly what size is it?

Terrific capture of a mocker landing.
Yes, they are very territorial and guard their area with all their might. I guess they are my favorite bird as my mocker provides me with amusment each and every day, his antics are never ending. Plus he gave a grackle the heave ho the other day, so any bird which can chase away grackles and starlings must be tops.
You'd think he would soon tire of the routine of chasing away other birds from his domain but it seems to continue day in and day out. Just enjoy him!

Wondeful stop action shot Donna. Yeah, I have these pests too. Last year I witnessed a renegade mocker kill a titmouse. Darn near broke my heart and I was so against this mocker. Then I decided not to take it so personally as the mocker was doing what he has always done since the beginning of time.

I'm so happy that you all enjoyed the picture!
Sal, I'm going to attach another one of him landing that gives you a better idea of the white spots on his wings. I will go through my stuff this evening to find one of him simply perched. They also have outer white feathers on their tails. They are fairly large birds compared to a lot of my other "yard" birds, but I don't have exact measurements here at work. I think they may be a bit smaller than a Blue Jay...but when they decide to be territorial, they're meaner. I will look them up this evening and give you real dimensions. I would hate to give out the wrong info!

Great picture Donna, and congratulations on winning the photo comp. Actually, I love the Mockingbird. I could listen to it all day as, according to it's name, it can sing any song it hears. My neighbor even keeps running to her phone, because her resident Mocker mimics her phone ring.

Fantastic shot Donna!
You can almost read his mind as he is so clearly focused on the items on the table!
Nice one miss,

Gongratulation Donna and what a good action picture of this bird. Super.
He has a very sharp and clever look in his face, never seen one before, so I too would like to see a picture of one posing nicely.

wonderful capture of the mockingbird Donna, and congrats on winning the competition. We see them here in Michigan during the spring/summer seasons, but not often. My Mother lives in Oklahoma and during our phone conversations about birds, she always *always* has something to say about her resident mockingbirds- usually how they chase the other birds away from food/water. I enjoy their many songs and think they're a pretty clever bird.
