Anybody still using Canon FD for bird photography? I have an A-1 body and a few FD lenses but nothing longer than 200mm. Anybody using a long FD lens for birds? Your experiences? Recommendations?

I loved very much my Canon 600mm f4.5 FD lens until June 2003 when the diaphragma ring broke and Canon claimed no more spare parts... I even used it with my Eos 10D using an Adorama FD-Eos adapter from which I had taken out the glass (so no cheap glass between my 10D and 600mm, but it didn't work with my FD 28mm).I used it with 1.4x and 2.0x and even both converters with good results. I have now found an independant camerashop who will try to repair my lens but after 3 months still no news...

Try abilenecamera.com

A long way from Belgium but really good at manual focus lens repair.

Hello,
i´m very interested how the 10D works with the FD 600mm f4.5 lens, with the Adorama FD-Eos adapter. Can you tell me more details about it and the optical results ( just got an FD 600mm f 4.5 , but have not the adapter ).
Thank you

I am very sorry for replying so late but I wasn't simply aware of your question |:$| . I have edited my "Default Thread Subscription Mode" from "Do not subscribe" to "Instant email notification", so I can see when someone replies to my post.

I could only test my Canon FD 600mm f4.5 lens with both converters (2x + 1.4x) and with 2x. Thereafter, my tripod and my lens fell over and was broken. But with one and two teleconverters, I didn't loose infinity (to my great surprise). But the adapter didn't work with my Canon FD 28mm lens, so I think one can only hold infinity with a long telephotolens(600mm and more),but I haven't tested this nor have others. Originally, there was glass in the Adorama adapter but I have broken the glass and took it away. But Canon has also a Macro-adapter ring without glass but I haven't tried it with my lens. May be this works also with big telelenses but I am not at all sure of this.

Best wishes,

Luc
