This is my first post so please bear with me. I am in the process of perchasing the fieldscope 82mm spotting scope and i was wondering what was the easiest way to start taking pics w/my cannon powershot A70. I do not want to hold the camera(the easiest) I would like suggestions on ways to mount it to the 25to75 zoom eyepiece. Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi Ilbirdr,

On behalf of Admin and the Moderators welcome to Bird Forum :t:

I'm not expert on this camera though I believe it can take an adapter - a quick search of the digiscoping forums revealed that the LA-DC52C adapter will fit this camera but I have no idea of the prices. There are several threads about this camera here - http://www.birdforum.net/search.php?searchid=417571

ILBIRDR,

You can choose from two kinds of solutions: a tube adapter or a support bracket. Both have their advantages. See http://www.digiscoped.com/Adapters.html
A tube adapter
+ simple, lightweight, less expensive, easy to align
- external zoom (A70) wastes eye-relief (not too much in the Nikon zoom), often camera specific (filter thread), may disturb zooming and viewing.
I think the adapter Ian mentioned is just the filter tube, which would still need the adapter to fit the scope to the camera. Altogether less than $200?

A bracket (Nikon http://www.adorama.com/NKUMB.html, Zeiss (see mickporter's equipment review), Opticron...)
+ easy to switch on and off, does not disturb viewing, you get wider fov with A70, works with any camera.
- expensive, heavy, first adjustments may be fiddly, did I say expensive.

If you plan to use the zoom, I would recommend the bracket-type adapter, but if possible, try before you buy.

Good luck,

Ilkka
