Hi, Bean,

I can't help you with your question, but I've taken the liberty of copying your post to the "Information Wanted" forum where you might get some additional response. Good luck on your trip!

Not sure which way your going round but either way you will come across gates which can only be opened by the military. Each gate has intercom that communicates back to the army base, just press the button and ask for permission to walk around the island. The total distance round Thorney Island is about 5-6 miles if going through the gates. At the south-east tip you get good views of Pilsey Island, I’ve even come across common seal before. I prefer to walk from the west side passing Thorney Deeps.

Good luck, I believe you will enjoy Thorney Island.

Over the last week Ive heard there has been Osprey and Marsh Harrier. The last time I was there (a couple of weeks ago) there were Bearded Tits, Turtle Dove, Whinchat, Wheatear, Greenshank, Blackwits etc. Enjoy your visit.
