De-Misting Tips ?

Got my "waterproof" Nikon fieldscope wet and now have a very bad case of internal condensation! Had it on a heater for a week now, seems to clear ok but then once it is outside the condensation re-forms.
Any tips?

Send it back to Nikon, under warranty, if it reocurs demand a refund.

Well, my old-style Nikon EDII fieldscope has had similar trouble recently and I put it in the oven - on a low heat around 60 degrees. This pretty much sorted it out, especially after I had put the prism in seperately. I suspect this probably isn't 'good practice' but it worked for me. Bill's probably right about sending it back to Nikon though, especially as the newer ones are supposed to be waterproof.

Annoying thing is it has actually just come BACK from Nikon! After having a £250 repair job. I suspect it wasn't re-sealed properly.
Not another two months without a scope!!!!!!

Yes it had misted slightly before, after getting wet. The repair was to a damaged mounting inside after it got blown over.

Bill's probably right about sending it back to Nikon though, especially as the newer ones are supposed to be waterproof.

Well, I'd also send it back to Nikon. But I'm pretty sure that the Nikon EDIII (although by no means as bad as the ED and the EDII) just isn't as waterproof as some of the other scopes on the market. You've got to be really careful not to get them soaking wet if you want to avoid this sort of problem.

when i lived in Indonesia I used to keep my bins in a bag with a fair amount of Silica Gel to absorb moisture - this can be put into the toes of a pair of tights and the open end tied off. Never once had a moisture problem in a very damp environment and they also got soaked through when out birding. Don't know if it'd help to dry the scope but might be worth a go.

I am really suprised-the Nikon FSIII reports to be waterproof and keeps having these peroblems? Nikon FSIII has a 25 year warranty no fault replacement warranty policy, why is no one mentioning this on the nikon FSIII threads? What are the experiences of Nikon users and there warranty customer service?
