Alan - have a look at our website, there are details there of our set-up, and if you follow some of the links, you'll find what other people have done.

Hi Alan
I might suggest buying or making the box yourself and adding a camera to it afterward as this seems to work out a little cheaper.

Makes for better TV to.
I like some of the cordless cameras which are available as they are far more versatile and easy to set up. I got mine off Ebay and it is quitr impressive for the cost approx £45 inc p&p. Good look with the project.

I made my own box around three years ago and installed a b&w board camera+wiring kit from Henrys and it's still going strong.

I know this is an old thread, but I have just looked at your website Ian.
Is there any sign of birds showing interest in your box this year?

It's usually around the 6th-9th April for us before the Blue Tits start showing any interest in the box.
Meanwhile though we've had a Great Tit roosting every night since last November. It normally clears off mid-March but with the late cold snap it may hang around a bit longer this year.

put new box up with a camera in it on Saturday, two Blue Tits exploring it this morning, only problem is they keep perching on the wire connecting the camera to the power supply and making the image flicker.
great fun to watch though o:)

Lucky you Richard! Well done. (Do you notice a tinge of jealousy?)
If the wire you are talking about is outside the box, tape it to the box side to stop it pulling.
If it's inside, I know some people put a false ceiling in, with just a hole for the camera lens and LEDs to stop this happening.
For a few days last week blue tits and then a pair of great tits were checking our box and looking inside, but not going in. Now nothing is going near it again.

wont get too excited until they actually start nest building, but surprised how fast they started investigating.
cheers for the tip about the wire.

as of today there's now the beginnings of a nest in the box, and currently a sleeping Blue Tit!
