Several members have posted comments or questions about vagrant winter hummingbirds.
Although winter hummers apparently were extremely unusual in the past, we are encountering more and more in the eastern U.S.--especially Rufous Hummingbirds, Selasphorus rufus.
If you know of ANY hummers in the eastern U.S. after mid-October, please report them to mailto:research@hiltonpond.org
You can read all about winter hummingbirds--and how to care for them--on the Web site for Hilton Pond Center for Piedmont Natural History, specifically at

Happy (Winter) Hummingbird Watching!
