Yeah, I know, and half the planet is asking: Sooooo?
It's the first time this year and the second time in the last two years that I have awakened to rain. The last time (October) I got out the video camera. I'm used to now though.
The Black-chins are annoyed however. They keep hovering around the feeder looking for a dry spot (I guess).

Strange how familiarity can breed contempt as in the UK, all we seem to moan about is how it rains all the time (even if it doesn't)
Lovely little Hummer pic too!

Reminds me of my one and only visit to Palm Springs, Chuck. Was there on Christmas eve, 1992, and could barely see any of the mountains or desert for the misty rain and fog! LOL!
Enjoyed your picture of the hummer, too!

Hi Chuck
Enjoyed the pic. But as for getting a video camera out when it starts to rain? Hey, you need to get out more!

Hi Chuck,
Good to hear from someone in Vegas. My wife and I visited in September. The Henderson Water Treatment and Bird Sanctuary has to get a mention as the best place to bird in the Las Vegas area! It was my first time there and the diversity of bird life was impressive. Hope anyone on this forum, visiting the Las Vegas area, stops by.

Fer shure. Now that I'm all geared up, I have big plans for the high country of Utah and Arizona. I may even work my way west to California.
I used the Digisnap 2000 for that shot. I set the camera next to the feeder and shoot the camera 10 m away by the warmth of my laptop. The birds don't seem to care when I set up next to the feeder (other then giving me a dirty look for intruding into their territory). You haven't lived until you've been challenged, eye ball to eye ball, by a bird the size of a bug.

Dennis, sorry I missed your post first go round. Glad you had a chance to check it out, and thanks. The folks involved have put a lot of work into that and it deserves mention. I've lived here for 40 years, but for school and the military. I know the rep Vegas has, but I'm not alone in my thinking about the environment and in general and birds in particular. This area has a lot more to offer then casinos (though the owners or the chamber of commerce is loath to admit it).
The sun has set, the street lights are coming on, and I am looking at a soggy Dark-chinned at a dripping feeder. There's nothing as sad as a wet hummer.
Cat owners aren't allowed to post here are they?

Sounds like the title of a song!! I can just picture it, a few bars of sad piano, Frankie steps up to the mike, "It's raining in Vegas...." Lovely! Beautiful colours on the Hummer, fits right in with the night and the weather.

Cat owners better be allowed on here! LOL!
