I know that there is BirdRecorder, but is there any other software I can get for a reasonable price for recording my bird findings? Thanks.

You want to cover the world? Or just North America?

Just North America...and a program where I would imput the day's findings such as type of bird, location, activity, etc. You know of any?

I use Birders Diary v 3. It's a new edition this year. It comes in either a NA or world version. I've got the world version (Istill have hopes to travel more) and I'm pleased with it. One of the nice fearures is that if yopu have cornell's birds of Na guide installed, you can access it directly from within BD. What I mean is that if you are recording a bird and suddenly want to look at a picture or read about it you can immediately bring up the field guide page on the bird from the Cornell software then move back to the recording software.
Naturally it also allows you to generate repots in all kinds of formats, tracks a s many levels of location as you might want etc.
It's also possible to use it to record things other than birds i.e. Mammals, butterflies etc. Some of those lists are built in or you can create your own taxonomic lists.
Do a search under Thayer Birding software and you'll find their site.

Thanks for that info Dan it was very helpful. I checked out there software and it is great but seems a little too complicated and expensive then what I am looking for. Anything simpler you know of?

If you want something simple and free, go to this

http://www.birdlist.org/

You can choose the area of the world you want to cover, then just copy and paste the birds into Excel, and hey presto! Then just add your own columns for whatever info you wish to put in. I've used this for recording bird numbers during trips abroad and found it excellent, I'm sure it'll do if you do not want to spend any money. I'd love to have the bird recorder for the world too, but at £100, its way way above my limit.

All the best

I don't have any experience with these but you may want to try them:

If you want something free (Open Source license), try this nifty little software called J-Bird:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/j-bird/

It's still in development stage, but they've got a working version to download. Perhaps a bit cumbersome, but you can't beat it for the price! It comes with the entire Sibley-Monroe world list, but you can create smaller country/state/county lists from the master one.
