First of all, hello to all! Looks like I've found the right forum for my question. :loveme:

In an earlier life, I used to watch birds and photograph mainly in B&W. After a long hiatus from these interests I now try to revive them.

I now own a Canon G5. I also have my old Kowa tube. I'd like them to connect. I've looked at the adapter available from http://www.lensadapter.com/ .

Anyone tried something simliar with a Canon G and have a word of advice? I'm worried that the adaper that's necessary to fit anything at all on the camera (stupid!) will cause vignetting.

TIA :flowers:

Hi meow-meow,

A warm welcome to BirdForum from all the Moderators and Admin.

I am afraid I have no experience of the kit you describe but hopefully someone will be along soon who does.

Hi meow-meow,

I don't have personal experience of this camera, but if I recall correctly, whilst some of the Canon A series seem to work okay, the G series do tend to produce vignetting on most scopes. Hopefully someone with practical experience will be along soon...

I've seen reports of good results with G2 and G3s. http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=7565 is one you might check out.

If you're going to get vignetting, seems like it would come from the characteristics of the camera and scope, not the clamp that holds them rigidly together.

If your main concern is vignetting, and you already have the camera and the scope, why not experiment by holding the camera up to the eyepiece or else jury-rigging a mount to hold lens and scope securely together? That's all the adapter from lensadapter or scopetronix is going to do (albeit more precisely than home-made gear). If you like the results, then spring for the machined adapter.

Good luck. rgds, ghh
