I'm still a fairly new birder (have to stop making that excuse soon) but seemed to remember reading years ago that the first Cuckoo is usually published in the Times (or similar) - at least the first report is published each year.
I'm sure the earliest ever was recorded somewhere - Guinness book of records perhaps? - anyone verify this?
I only ask as I heard a guy from Cleveland (UK) stating the first cuckoo had been heard already this year - this was on either 5 Live or Talk Sport (I listen to both so unsure) - I presume what was heard was possibly active Collered Doves? - or anyone know any different?
Did I imagine the bit about the Times?
Steve
