I have been looking at some binoculars today at InFocus.

I want to buy a pair of good quality binoculars. This is I hope a one off purchase so I don't wish to be dissapointed later. I can afford a decent pair of bins.

I looked at several in the mid range of around £400. Then several at £800+. My personal favorites were the Delta BGA PC bins, which cost about £400. In pretty poor lighting conditions I examined others at the higher cost end, but kept coming back to the Delta's. (I am led to belive that Delta is InFocus's own badged version of Opticron binoculars?) Colours looked brighter in dull light, even over the Zeiss costing nearly £900, they worked fine when the sun finally poked out from between clouds, and they worked perfectly at close range which will enable me to watch butterflies, and dragonflies.

Can anyone tell me if I will be dissapointed with the Delta's? Should I be spending more? (I would not please my bank manager and be stretching my credit card to its limit!) Or do you recommend some other route?

I believe the Delta's are rebadged Opticron's, certainly the compact BGA's have the same spec and look identical to the Opticron equivalent. I've used to use a pair of the cheaper Delta SLs and they were excellent value.

Ultimately its down to your eyes if you believe you gave all the bins a thorough workout and tried enough brands and prefer the Delta's then go for it.

As Pete says, go with what you feel comfortable with. It sounds like you've given them a decent testing. Hopefully someone who owns Deltas will add comments. Some years back a friend went to buy a Leica at In Focus, tried a Pentax, and went for the Pentax 'cos he couldn't see any advantage of the Leica.
